From a Crochet Hook to Chris’s Crochet Cabin

My love for crochet started when I was a child, when my mom and grandma taught me how to crochet. Over the years, I would pick up my hook from time to time—making blankets, hats, baby items for my children, and other little projects along the way.

Then 2020 changed everything.

When COVID hit, I was furloughed from my job with American Express Global Business Travel. Suddenly, I found myself at home with a lot of unexpected time on my hands and looking for something to keep me busy.

So I picked up my crochet hook again.

What started as simply a way to pass the time quickly became so much more. I crocheted...and crocheted...and crocheted! By the time I was called back to work 16 months later, I had filled about four large totes with handmade creations—and that was after giving plenty of things away to friends and family.

One day, my best friend came over, saw everything I had made, and said:

“You need to be selling your handmade stuff on Etsy!”

And that's exactly what I did.

I opened my Etsy shop and began sharing my handmade creations with others. What started as a childhood skill passed down from my mom and grandma had grown into Chris’s Crochet Cabin.

Today, crochet is still my zen—my happy place. After a busy workday, picking up my hook and yarn is how I relax, decompress, and let the rest of the world fade away for a while.

Every plushie, lovey, and stuffy I make is created one stitch at a time, by hand, with care. Knowing that something I made might become a child's favorite cuddle buddy, a special gift, or simply something that makes someone smile is one of my favorite parts of creating.
